4x4 Parts, Truck Parts, and SUV Parts

4x4

4x4s have the ability to access remote locations and traverse large swaths of land. They are excellent for adventures, safaris and camping because plenty of supplies can be lashed to the rack or clamped into the trunk. Four wheel vehicles are built to tough standards and the best are not known for breaking down easily. Most people modify and add custom 4 wheel parts to a standard four wheel drive vehicle such as lift kits, bull bars or bumpers, and large four wheel tires.

Truck parts can be found at a variety of places from auto parts stores, repair shops, junk yard and online. Many 4x4 parts can be installed at home in the garage or driveway. When lifting the suspension or body inside a garage make sure that the vehicle will be able to clear the top of the garage after it is lifted, a not so uncommon mistake that renders hours of work meaningless. Other installations of off road parts such as off road lights are a little easier and can be accomplished in only an hour or two depending on the project.

A safari snorkel is a popular 4wd part that prevents excess dust and water from entering the air intake. The can allow a four wheel drive to cross rivers that go as deep as height of the windshield. In dry environments a little bit of rain can turn a dry river bed into a raging river in a matter of seconds, making crossing impossible without a snorkel. They also prevent dust and debris from dry four wheeling conditions from clogging the filter which lowers engine performance.

Another popular 4 wheel truck part is the CB radio. Some of the newest models fit the entire radio apparatus into the size of the handheld microphone, only having to plug in for power. They can access multiple weather stations which are important when out in the wilderness. They can also access many radio frequencies allowing communication between multiple four wheel drive vehicles and large trucks allowing for help and advice to be passed through the air.

Other useful SUV parts are wilderness roof racks which can support a lot of weight and have plenty of areas to tie equipment down, and other 4 wheel parts and accessories such as spare tire carrier, first aid kit, and straps. A heavy duty jack is important not just for changing a flat tire, but can be used to free a stuck wheel, or raise the wheel enough to clear a large obstacle. A skid plate protects the undercarriage of the vehicle from damage. Vulnerable parts are the steering box, gas tank, differentials, transmission, radiator as well as other engine parts. Custom rims can be damaged, so becareful.

Taking care of a four wheel drive vehicle is easy. It should be kept clean even though a thick coat of mud is the four wheelers badge of honor. Dirty parts can corrode and rust sooner, lowering their strength and causing frequent breakdowns. Moving parts should be kept lubricated and extra gas and oil (and water) should be brought on longer excursions. Stay on trail and don’t abuse the environment or other campers and four wheel enthusiasts for the best four wheeling experience.
